_ Here’s this week’s update of #shootinjapan from AOI Global at Miya-jima in Hiroshima prefecture (photo taken pre Covid-19). This stone statue is called a Jizō. Jizō statues represent a Buddhist deity. Their main role is to protect children. Jizo statues exist in many different shapes and sizes throughout Japan. Looks like this Jizō has been given a cool pair of shades. The other main role of a Jizo is to protect travelers. Hopefully you will come across one the next time you are able to visit Japan.
